Simple Things Sunday: Pipsqueak

Wow, I haven't been here in months!  Things have been so crazy that I forgot all about blogging for Mr. No.  First Simple Things Sunday in over 6 months is about our little friend who was just passing through, Pipsqueak. 

 

First, please note that I absolutely do not advocate taking wildlife from it's environment.  You are supposed to leave seemingly abandoned babies in a protected area for 4-6 hours to see if their mom will come back for them. Then contact a wildlife rehabilitator for instructions on what to do. How Pipsqueak ended up with us is a long story but I'm not getting into that.  This simple creature reminded me of some pretty big things... such as my son's intense love for every living creature be it a beautiful swan or a not so loved field mouse.  He reminded us of the compassion we should have for every living thing and to cherish the beings we love because they could be gone in an instant as his family was, the poor little thing.  So this week, we are celebrating the simple moments we had with Pipsqueak and his amazing determination to survive.

 After 2 days of feedings every 2 hours, we finally found a wildlife rehabilitator to take Pipsqueak so he can hopefully return to the wild soon. We sent him on his way with his dinosaur stuffed animal that he had bonded to and his habitat that he was comfortable in to help him continue to thrive.  As far as we know, he is doing fine.

Simple Things Sunday: Merry Christmas

Every year, we have a friend Christmas party.  Unlike most Christmas parties, there is no dressing up, no fancy meals, no large crowd of acquaintances you barely know.  It's a casual, pizza munching, small friend gathering where it really is about just relaxing with friends before the holidays.  Best part is The No's get to spend time together and just have fun.

Whichever holiday you celebrate and however you chose to celebrate it, we hope it's filled with happiness and love!

Simple Things Sunday: Snow Buddies

Two buds hanging out, watching the snow being cleared throughout the neighborhood and enjoying each others company.  No better way to spend a snowy Sunday morning!

Happy Birthday Mr. No!

My sweet, wonderful, smart, kind, loveable, creative, snuggly little boy is 6 years old today!  We've had a whirlwind weekend of birthday festivities, including meeting Santa on the Polar Express, so I'm barely getting this out before the day is over. He had a great 6th birthday weekend with lots of fun, family and even elf on the shelf and Santa.  I look at him and miss my chubby little baby but adore my handsome little man and am amazed by the incredible person he is becoming.  Happy Birthday, Mr. No!  We love you!

Simple Things Sunday: Student of the Week

Mr. No's school does a cute little student of the week thing where someone from each class is picked and gets to each lunch with the principal at a special table...and other things. I'm not exactly certain what because Mr. No does not like to talk about 90% of things school related.  However, he was incredibly excited by the book they create for student off the week where each classmate drew a picture of him and (the teacher for them) wrote what they like about Mr. No.  I found out more about him at school from that book than from anything he's said.  It's great to know that he listens to the teachers, never pushes, shares, helps other, is nice, is funny and has a couple "BFFs".   He is so proud of what the other kids wrote about him and the pictures they drew.

This is his favorite drawing in the book done by his good friend who is a girl. He seems to gravitate towards the girls as friends so it was a nice surprise that the 2 who wrote that Mr. No was their BFF were both boys. Nothing wrong at all with girls as friends but he does have to learn to get along with boys, too.

The one that makes me laugh is the boy who's favorite thing about Mr. No isn't exactly about Mr. No.

And the one that makes Mr. No mad because we tease him about it.  Really I think it's sweet but he get so hilariously worked up over he thinking that he's handsome...pronounced haaaaannnndsoooome! ooooo! in our house.  We're so mean.

 

Another great week for Mr. No: reading necklace handed out, prizes from the prize jar for doing all the things he was supposed to do, this great book and off to Yankee Candle (huge) Store today! 

He's so happy!

Simple Things Sunday: Mr. No's Big Week

The only thing more exciting to a little kid than Halloween is Christmas!  Mr. No had a blast this Halloween.  He dressed up like the red ninja from Ninjago...or his take on it anyway.  He got to hand out candy and trick or treat with Auntie around Nana's very Halloween friendly neighborhood. 

 It was also his last week of fall soccer.  For someone who claimed that he didn't even want to sign up (he did) on his first day, he certainly was sad to hear the it was ending.  He even played like he was going to miss it by almost getting 1 goal and by succeeding in getting a second attempt in the goal!  Last game and his team won (not that they really keep score).  Then every kid got a full size doughnut and little trophy.  He was so excited about the trophy.  Almost as excited as he was about getting his yellow belt in karate.  He had to show everyone his trophy.  Definitely a great week for Mr. No. He's the super tall one in the orange shoes, socks and shirt!

Simple Things Sunday: Pumpkin Painting

we are finally getting around to decorating the pumpkins we picked weeks ago! This year, Mr. No and I decided to paint our pumpkins again rather than carve them.  I cannot be trusted with a knife and H (who works weekends) just hasn't had the time to carve with him now that Mr. No goes to school full time. Mr. No is just as happy painting as he is carving...maybe happier since he gets to do all the creativity. 

 We ended up with a Skeleton Dragon, a Vampire and Jack Skellington. I'm sure it's easy to figure once which is which!

Simple Things Sunday: Karate Demonstration

This weekend we finally got to see all that Mr. No has learned at his karate lessons.  He rarely shows us anything at home and there is only a tiny black and white monitor to watch him on at karate.  I actually like the fact that, unlike most other places, there isn't a big window in front where the classes are used as an advertisement for the business.  It was great to see him (with his new yellow belt!) showing off what he knows.  He was so proud of himself!

When it was Mr. No's turn to show his individual skills, the dad in the front row decided to shift right in my way. :(  There really wasn't anywhere to move to so I had to make do.

Simple Things Sunday: Catching Grasshoppers

There's a cute little nature trail just down the road from our home.  Last week, we found out that it is a haven for grasshoppers. Like any you boy (or child, really), Mr. No loves grasshoppers!  This place is like heaven to him.  He could spend every afternoon there catching grasshoppers and never get bored. And there are sooo many to catch...probably a hundred or more or all sizes.  It's a great way for Mr. No to run off some energy after school and a perfect way to spend some uninterrupted time together.  Of course I am a Mom who catches grasshoppers...and caterpillars and frogs and lizards and katydids. If it's cute, I'll pick it up.  If it's icky, he's on his own! ( It's seems that the trick to getting them to sit on your hand for a bit is to hold them rather high up from the ground.  Most only jump when they are close to the ground.)
